Children born in rich countries have a better life expectancy at birth

The longevity of life for children born in wealthy countries is greater than of those from poorer countries.

Children born in countries like Japan, Switzerland, Italy and South Korea were expected to live to over 80 years, recent data from World Health Organization (WHO) shows.

Children born in poorer countries like Central Africa Republic and Lesotho had the lowest life expectancy at birth, and were not expected to live beyond 47 and 50 years, respectively. The expected longevity of life was about 30 percent less when compared with rich countries.

Overall life expectancy across the world grew by six years over a ten year period to 2019.
